Being a Writing Mentor forced me to take a closer look at my own journey with reading, writing, and digital communication. One major outcome that I am especially proud of, is the creation of multiple iterations of my digital literacy narrative, which you can find just below this section. The concept of a literacy narrative was the breakthrough I really needed to enhance my understanding of myself and others.
The Literacy Narrative is a concept that refers to the conscious or unconscious story we tell ourselves and others about literacy itself. If you’re like me, then your literacy Narrative is likely to be rooted in what we in the writers studio refer to as “The Literacy Myth”, this is the belief that the enhancement of ones literacy through education is essentially The ticket to economic prosperity, this is not always the case and can lead to very unsuccessful behaviours with regard to literacy and its progression.
